“Lonoikamakahiki” is a Hawaiian expression referring to this time of transition from Kū to Lono. The rising of Makali’i (Pleiades star cluster) in the sky signals the start of Makahiki season which will transpire till late February or early March. Since ancient days, Native Hawaiians honored these coming months with celebration, regeneration, and harvest.
