2024 Fall/Winter Events
“Lonoikamakahiki” is a Hawaiian expression referring to this time of transition from Kū to Lono. The rising of Makali’i (Pleiades star cluster) in the sky signals the start of Makahiki season which will transpire till late February or early March. Since ancient days, Native Hawaiians honored these coming months with celebration, regeneration, and harvest.
As ethical apiculturists, we only collect surplus honey from our hives to share with friends who understand the significance of bees beyond the liquid gold they make. Such awareness and relationship to our community is a priority and not taken lightly. We’ve been told that our honey is heart-opening and buzzing with effervescent energy. The gentle mālama (care and protection) of our O‘ahu apiaries is felt in the viscosity of wildflower flavors once it touches your palate.
To extend our gratitude and generosity, we are stretching our Small Business Saturday sale until 11:59 pm HST on December 4, 2024!
4 oz jars of boutique honey from Hoa ‘Āina O Mākaha and Waiāhole Forest Reserve are on sale for $11 + shipping. The base of HAOM’s honey tends to crystallize over time due to kiawe (Prosopis pallida) crossed with several botanicals… noni, mango, citrus, jackfruit, macadamia nut, and Spanish plum. Its golden tone tastes like Hawaiian sunshine compared to the auburn highlights of lychee, starfruit, papaya, Java plum, avocado and albizia along the Waiāhole Stream. Customers have the option of choosing what terroir their honey purchase is from.
