Devoted to the livelihood of pollinators and specialized in the protection of honeybees

In October of 1857, three hives of German dark bees (Apis mellifera mellifera) were shipped to Honolulu and successfully introduced to the Hawaiian Islands. Prior to their arrival, 63 species of Nalo meli maoli (Native yellow-faced bees), in the genus Hylaeus, had a ubiquitous population throughout the archipelago.

Largely due to habitat loss over the last century, seven species of these solitary Hawaiian yellow-faced bees are federally listed as endangered. Other biotic pollen vectors like moths, butterflies, birds, and bats also assist in the diversity of our ecosystems and feed us humans. Without these creatures, familiar flavors of today would be considered scarce tomorrow.

Since 2012, we have been on a wild adventure of saving feral honeybee colonies from extermination. We are conservationists, educators, and master beekeepers providing a service that is an alternative solution to pest control.
